Description
In the early 1800s the spanish put their troops in a chapel and named it the "El Alamo" after the cottonwood trees surrounding it. Later the Mexicans took the fort from the Spanish. The Texan volunteers led by James Collingsworth  then later took the fort from the Mexicans. In 1836 James Bowie and William B.Travis were in control of the Texan force. The new commander-in-chief Sam Houston thought to abandon the fort due to not enough troops. On febuary 23 about 6000 mexican forces led by general Santa Anna but for 13 days the texans held up but on march 6th the mexicans breached the outer wall and made it in and killed everyone but two people Sussanah Dickson and her daughter saying that this will keep happening if the texans revolt. Still the mexicans lost about 1600 in the battle. The mexicans stayed in the fort from march to may.
